On March 29th, Axie Infinity's Ronin Network (Sky Mavis) bridge was exploited for 173,600 Ethereum (ETH) and 25.5M USDC. Approximately one month prior, users of Wormhole - a similar “bridge-based” protocol – fell victim to a 120,000 ETH exploit. Multiple hacks have also targeted validator networks such as Thorchain in recent months. 

Patrick McConlogue, CEO of the Overline Network, warns: “While the theft of funds itself is appalling, the more glaring issue is the growing acceptance among the crypto community of “pseudo-decentralization”, a term used to describe centralized services masquerading as decentralized networks in order to evade regulatory scrutiny and capitalize on crypto hype.” 

Developers of the Overline Network caution that users should be far more skeptical of the claims made by many popular networks today. It is common to see these events labeled as mere exploits and bugs. However, this distances these events from the reality that these attacks are systemic to protocols with bridge, validator, or wrapped token designs. August 18, 2008: The domain name bitcoin.org is registered.

August 22, 2008: Satoshi Nakamoto emails Wei Dei, the creator of b-money, an "anonymous, distributed electronic cash system."

Satoshi mentions that they are getting ready to release a paper that expands on a similar idea.

October 31, 2008: Satoshi posts a message with the title "Bitcoin P2P e-cash paper" on a cryptography mailing list. The email describes a fully peer-to-peer electronic cash system that doesn’t require a trusted third party.

The email links to the whitepaper "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System." The whitepaper introduces Bitcoin as an "electronic payment system" that uses cryptographic proof in place of trust. As a result, it allows any two willing parties to transact with each other directly without requiring a third party.

The whitepaper describes the electronic payment system. Owners transfer coins to each other by singing:

a) the hash of the previous transaction

b) the public key of the next owner.

These signatures get added to the end of the coin. Payees can then verify the chain of ownership by confirming the signatures. Additionally, Satoshi included a definition of Bitcoin's proof of work (PoW) system.

This paper marks the introduction of the concept of the Blockchain.

December 12, 2008: Bitcoin is added to Sourceforge. Early developers and contributors engage in conversations that discuss the future potential of these payment systems.

One such developer is Hal Finney. He looks at Bitcoin's code and points out some bugs and potential improvements. Finney highlights Bitcoin's potential as a global payment system.

2009

January 3, 2009: Bitcoin's block is launched, and the genesis block is mined. The genesis block includes the message "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks." This message was in reference to government banking bailouts following the 2008 financial crisis.

This headline is an integral part of the Bitcoin mythos. Many have speculated that Bitcoin was created as a direct reaction to the traditional banking system's role in the 2008 financial crisis.

Bitcoin's supply is fixed at 21 million Bitcoins. Fractions of each coin are called "Satoshis" after the Bitcoin founder. Each Satoshi represents 0.00000001 BTC.

January 8, 2009:  Bitcoin v0.1 is released. Satoshi announced on a cryptographic mailing list that Bitcoin is an electronic cash system that prevents double-spending through a peer-to-peer network. He states that Bitcoin is decentralized and has no server or central authority.

January 12, 2009: The first Bitcoin transaction was made. Satoshis sends Hal Finney 10 BTC. Hal Finney, a cypherpunk and computer scientist, was an active member of the nascent Bitcoin community. It is believed that he created the first-ever reusable PoW system.

Additionally, Finney is thought to be the second person to run the Bitcoin network after Satoshi.

February 11, 2009: Satoshi Nakamoto posts on the P2P Foundation forum. He talks about how he has developed an open-source P2P cash system called Bitcoin.

He writes that Bitcoin is:

a) completely decentralized

b) has no central server

b) requires no trusted parties

He further suggests that everything is based on PoW instead of trust.

April 12, 2009: Satoshi begins an extensive email exchange with a Google developer Mike Hearn. Hearn would go on to work full-time on developing Bitcoin. The pair discuss several important cryptocurrency concepts, such as security, transaction speed, and size.

October 5, 2009: Bitcoin gets its first-ever BTC/USD exchange rate. A pro-crypto website called New Liberty Standard provides the price based on the cost of the electricity needed to mine one bitcoin. They set the initial price at $0.0007 and offer daily updates.

October 12, 2009: Marti Malmi, a Finnish developer, known as Sirius, sells 5,050 Bitcoin for the price of $5.02. This transaction gives Bitcoin its first price in USD, with a valuation of $0.0009.

December 17, 2009: Bitcoin v0.2 is released. It is supported by Windows and Linux and comes with some much welcomed new features like multi-processing chip support and an autostart on boot option that allows miners to run Bitcoin in the background automatically.

Satoshi announces the launch of a new forum called bitcoin.org/smf/.

December 30, 2009: The first problems with Bitcoin v0.2 are reported when, to limit supply, the system makes it more challenging for miners to achieve block rewards.

2010

January 24, 2010: A user calling themselves Sabunir tries to sell a picture on the Bitcointalk Forum. He quotes a price of 500 Bitcoin.

The thread becomes a hotbed of discussion between Satoshi and early Bitcoin adopters. One of the topics discussed relates to why Bitcoin transactions cannot contain encrypted messages.

February 15, 2010: Satoshi responds to negative feedback on his post to the P2P Foundation site. He explains why previous peer-to-peer digital currencies failed, citing their centralized nature as the reasons they didn't work.

February 26, 2010: Satoshi posts the Bitcoin logo.

March 3, 2010: Bitcoin Market becomes the first official cryptocurrency exchange. Beginning as a proposal on the Bitcointalk forum, at the time of its launch, each Bitcoin is worth around $0.03.

May 22, 2010: Laszlo Hanyecz negotiates with a fellow early Bitcoin adopter to have two Papa John's pizzas delivered to his home in exchange for 10,000 Bitcoins. This figure was roughly equivalent to $41. As of Bitcoin's peak price in November 2021, the cost of these pizzas was $650 million.

Back then, there were no established methods for buying goods or services with Bitcoin. Papa Johns themselves did not take the money. Thanks to Laszlo pizza purchases, the Bitcoin community refers to May 22 as Bitcoin Pizza Day.

July 7, 2010: Bitcoin v0.3 is unveiled. The update has several new features, including translations into Dutch, German, and Italian. Interestingly, this was the first update that Satoshi didn't sign off.

July 11, 2010: Software developer Gavin Andresen launched the Bitcoin faucet project on Bitcointalk. This project gave away 19,700 BTC to help get the network going.

Andresen became Bitcoin's chief developer in 2010. The MIT Technology Review has described Andresen as "The Man Who Really Built Bitcoin."

July 17, 2010: From July 12 to July 17, Bitcoin jumps in price from $0.008 to $0.8.

The now-notorious cryptocurrency exchange Mt.Gox first opens.

August 6, 2010: In a post titled "Bitcoin minting is thermodynamically perverse," on the Bitcointalk forum, a member called "gridecon" posts concerns about Bitcoin's energy usage.

Satoshi responds by comparing mining Bitcoin to mining gold and suggests the "cost of gold mining tends to stay near the price of gold." He means that while the cost of gold mining can be considered wasteful in isolation, the energy costs are outstripped by the usefulness of gold as a medium of exchange.

July 31, 2010: Bitcoin's Wikipedia page is deleted by a member of Wiki admin because it is considered not famous enough. Satoshi responds by suggesting Bitcoin should be at least mentioned under Electronic Cash.

August 15, 2010: The Bitcoin project's vulnerability is exposed when a fraudulent transaction creates 184 billion Bitcoins. The transaction is removed from the blockchain, and the network is forked to an updated version without the fraudulent transaction.

November 6, 2010: The Bitcoin total market cap surpasses $1 million. The number is calculated by multiplying the total number of Bitcoin circulating by the price on Mt.Gox, which was valued at $0.50.

December 10, 2010: PC World shares an article that describes Bitcoin as either the best idea since sliced bread or a "hacker's daydream." The article misstates that Bitcoin was invented because of the Wikileaks scandal.

Satoshi responds on the Bitcointalk forum, lamenting the fact that the association with Wikileaks could bring negative consequences for the coin. However, the article did provide significant publicity for Bitcoin.

December 12, 2010: Satoshi posts his final message on the Bitcointalk forum.

2011

January 2, 2011: The Silk Road was launched by Ross Ulbricht. This infamous and illegal website's aim is to create a marketplace where people can buy anything they want without any trace. Bitcoin is seen as the currency of choice.

February 9, 2011: Bitcoin reaches "Greenback parity" when the price reaches USD$1. Soon, it drops below that level as some investors choose to cash out.

April 16, 2011: The Bitcoin magnate Jerry Brito writes an article for Time Magazine about how online cash could challenge governments. He cites the Wikileaks scandal as an example of how governments can pressure payment processors to freeze funding of troublesome websites.

Brito goes on to describe how removing third-party intermediaries can give people the power to spend money where they want.

April 23, 2011: Satoshi sends an email to Mike Hearn, the Bitcoin Core Developer, suggesting he will step back from the Bitcoin project, giving a vote of confidence to Gavin Andresen and his team. Some people question the authenticity of this email.

April 26, 2011: Satoshi sends an email to Gavin Andresen. It is Satoshi's final known correspondence.

April 27, 2011: Bitcoin v0.3.21 is launched and features plug and play support. Additionally, it allows for full-precision Bitcoin amounts.

June 01, 2011: An article in Gawker uncovers the seedy underworld of the Silk Road. The report also mentions Bitcoin and Mt.Gox, which results in a surge of interest in the coin.

June 5, 2011: Bitcoin v0.3.22 is launched. It includes a fee schedule that demands the client accepts and relays TX's with a 0.0005 BTC fee schedule.

June 12, 2011: Bitcoin experiences its first bubble. The price of BTC surges up to $31 per coin before crashing to beneath $10.

Some analysts put the price rise down to interest in the coin generated via the Silk Road.

The following month, the New York Times suggests the price crash was caused by several hacking instances on the early Bitcoin exchanges.

June 14, 2011: Bitcoin version 0.3.23 is released with a bugfix to deal with the influx of new Bitcoin users.

June 18, 2011: Mt.Gox, by then the largest Bitcoin exchange in the world, shares news of a security breach. The price of Bitcoin drops from $17.5 to $0.01.

Mt.Gox announces that the names, passwords, and emails of more than 60,000 users have been stolen.

July 08, 2011: Bitcoin v0.3.24 arrives with features that support block downloading. It also fixes a loss of network crashes.

August 15, 2011: Bitcoin breaks past $10 per coin.

September 23, 2011: Bitcoin v0.4 is released. The flagship feature is wallet private key encryption.

October 7, 2011:  Litecoin (LTC) was created by Charlie Lee. Often referred to as "Bitcoin Lite," the coin was designed to enable instant peer-to-peer exchange at an affordable rate.

Litecoin is considered one of the first "altcoins." In time, it would be followed by other coins like Ethereum, which was created in 2015.

October 20, 2011: Bitcoin drops from around 90% of its peak price and falls below $3.

December 19, 2011: Bitcoin appears on the TV show "The Good Wife" in an episode titled "Bitcoin for Dummies." As a result, the price rose by 10%.

March 2012: Linode, a web hosting and cloud-computing platform was hacked for 45,544 BTC. Many of the coins were owned by Bitcoin's lead developer, Gavin Andresen.

May 12, 2012: An early Bitcoin exchange called Bitcoinica garners significant media attention due to a security breach that saw more than 18,000 Bitcoins stolen.

The exchange is shut down in the light of several million-dollar lawsuits.

June 18, 2012: After the Mt.Gox, Bitcoinica, and Linode hacks, Bitcoin’s price tanks. However, by June 18, it went past $9 for the first time in nearly a year.

August 17, 2012: The Washington Street Journal reports that Texas resident Trendon Shavers has been arrested for running a Bitcoin Ponzi scheme. It suggests that at one point, the scheme accounted for 7% of the worldwide Bitcoin supply.

Shavers was later sentenced to 18 months in prison. Additionally, he faced a $40 million civil action and heavy fines.

Coin Economics

While the brokerless validator free model is compelling for Borderless it is a feature set not a new class of products. Over the last month consistent stability and network improvements have been pushed by the engineering team (5 version releases) and savvy members of the community have developed custom GPU mining software which was shared to Advanced. Difficulty continues to break All-Time-Highs and is 200% higher difficult than at any period during the BT chain of 2018–2019.

The next 30 days are focused on two pillars.

1. Battle testing Borderless as it runs on Block Collider mainnet.

What Was Built

One of Block Collider’s founding blockchains experienced downtime of more than 3 hours from January 7th — January 9th. This is unacceptable for users, so the team went to work on a solution that would allow the thousands of Block Collider miners worldwide to automatically “pause” a dead chain without interrupting cross-chain applications or trades. This solution is now implemented.

How Do I Prepare

The Block Collider team have created a market making bot which will automatically trades on your behalf on major exchanges (like Binance) to clear profitable orders on Borderless. Hanging behind Jim Simon’s desk (founder of Renaissance Technology the highest performing hedge fund of all time) is a painting of a lynx lunging through the air capturing a hare. Snow is exploding in every direction and you can just make out the first signs of blood as the claws of the lynx dig into the hare. The allegory is clear, the hare unsuspecting and vulnerable in the cold weather will meet its untimely end by the patient talented hunter who preys on the weak. This is the state of the financial markets today, there is a grave imbalance toward a powerful few at the expense of public (retail) traders. As we approach the coming recessionary winter the beady eyes of the lynx hedge funds, lynx mutual funds, and lynx banks lie in wait.

Block Collider is an apex predator. It’s rise represents the end of broker-dealers who are single handedly responsible for IPO opening valuations. Block Collider is the end of fees at any level — not to list, not to trade. These fees tilt incentives away from value and toward unhealthy gray-market speculation especially in crypto currency space. Block Collider is the end of exchange’s losing your funds and/or your identity. Trades never leave your wallet, all trades are forcefully anonymous, and unlike atomic solutions spot rate settlement is done in seconds. Terminology

“BT chain”: The released multichain of Block Collider which was created by early members of the community that mined the first 28.8 m runs on all block chains using rovers.

“AT chain”: A scripting layer that runs on top of all blockchains allowing for complex inter-blockchain transactions. Unlike the BT chain, miners can earn more than 16 NRG per block if they own Emblems. NRG mined from the BT chain will be stored in the genesis block (ARC Block) including messages written by the founding community.

“Evangelists”: A community of individuals who were allowed to purchase Emblems only if they won an Evangelist event, which required in depth study of the blockchain space and a strong understanding of the blockchain ecosystem.

“Validators”: Used by other interoperability solutions, they are centralized machines which require you to trust them to relay transactions. Block Collider’s technology is unique in that there are no relays, oracles, or single points of trust required. This is comparable to Bitcoin.

“Multichain”: A new type of data structure that create a blockchain but within each of it’s blocks are the blocks of other blockchains.

“Proof of Distance”: The algorithm used when mining Block Collider and validating that miners have done work on all blockchains. It is a part of all technologies of Block Collider including future extensions to the protocol.

Previous Milestones

• Mining began following the genesis event on the BT chain product. Unfortunately NEO and WAVs couldn’t handle the load. A learning experience for centralized chains. Block Collider made a quick fix with a feature called “Dark Fibers” which lightened the load for them and more than 3000 miners began mining the Block Collider BT chain.

• All three Evangelists competitions were run creating one of the most unique communities in the ecosystem.

• 1.8 million blocks were mined in the BT chain from 55,000 IP addresses in 120 countries. 28.8 million NRG created and loaded in the first block ready for the AT mining chain.

• February 14th all Emblems were distributed to addresses who purchased them in the genesis event and the developer period started.

• By April it was clear developers needed more tools and a cleaner language for contributing so Block Collider spent the summer months building and upgrading the entire product including the SDK, the metrics interface, mining simulation, and Borderless into a best-in-class experience.

• The entire AT software stack and testing of the scripting language was successfully completed without open source contribution. By September 26th Block Collider and 6 members of the community traded on the new Borderless interface with real money on the actual block chains. No validators.

The upcoming timeline is split into three main parts. AT mining has been split to start first followed by Borderless (which sits as an interface to make trades on the AT chain).

Mining & After Target

Block Collider AT mining before the Borderless user interface is released. Developers and other decentralized exchanges can start submitting trades using the SDK or RPC interface directly. Miners will not be wasting work, ever. If a critical failure occurs, all NRG mined before the block where the error occurred will be updated as balances in the ARC block.

Difference between Before Target & After Target

The NRG mined from 1.8 million blocks in the before target period or 28.8 million NRG has been loaded to addresses in the ARC block. After target is the complete version one of the Block Collider protocol. Miners mining to addresses with EMB will receive additional NRG. NRG is sendable. And the full implementation of the multichain scripting language is incorporated. There is also no multiverse hosting main state, all nodes must sync the Block Collier multichain with other peers.

DAI, a USD 1x1 stable coin, will be available day one on Borderless for all pairs. Last year we began discussions with the Maker team to create a multi-asset DAI backed by multiple crypto assets. Efforts on this project will resume after Borderless is available. No DAI, this is not the 6th hidden blockchain coming to Block Collider.

Olympia Invitational Summit

The most difficult Evangelist event is currently set to be held in mid-November. There will be a cost to attend. For the security of the team and contestants the location is secret, however, should you solve the challenge of finding and purchasing a ticket and were subsequently unable to solve the clues to the location of the event the cryptocurrency contributed will be refunded. 2018 Evangelist event winners will receive the hints 24hrs early. Borderless Markets & Basecamp

A new unadministered group where all discussions are permitted has been created on Telegram. The goal is to create an open space to discuss all digital assets operating on all decentralized exchanges operating on Block Collider. This will be the new traders chat, the only rule is no discussions related to OTC of any asset. Public invitation to the group will be available soon.

Block Collider Basecamp which is the gear and equipment store will be going live to the public soon. Previously only for Evangelists the store has worldwide shipping to most major destinations and includes all the necessary equipment to show dedication to the mission.

Schedule & Audits

In early October 2019 engineers working in Block Collider core will be flying to the US to conduct a 10 day in depth sprint through the codebase. Once this is complete we will engage the security audit vendors to review the AT mining base. By mid October 20th the team will release a fixed timeline.

Liquidity as a function of volume is the performance metric of an exchange. Adoption is the performance metric of a cryptocurrency. This announcement describes the completion of a framework for both.

Borderless Services Inc. BVI-REG

We are permanently locking up 33% of the Emblem supply (100,000,000 EMB) in the creation of a holding company Borderless Services, Inc. (Borderless Services). The shares of Borderless Services, in perpetuum, are Emblems themselves. This event is more than 6 months in the making and endured a clean and complete transfer of the old Block Collider foundation structure into Borderless Services.

The result of this is threefold.

1. Every Emblem in the crypto market just become 33% more rare.

2. Markets 600x larger than the crypto market may gain exposure to EMB (see chart below).

3. Emblems join a group of only 9 cryptocurrencies available through holding companies on global markets: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ethereum Classic, Zcash, Stellar, Litecoin, Ripple, Horizen, Bitcoin Cash.

Governance

At first, the short term ‘holders’ will view the burning of Emblems as a strong value indicator. However we would ask you look beyond this event and at the overall strategy. We are actively building EMB into a multi-market safe haven. In the words of Warren Buffet, “Predicting rain doesn’t count. Building arks does.”

Fortunately, regarding the foundation, we were able to replicate and transfer the governance structure from Liechtenstein to the new holding company in its entirety. This was a necessary improvement on the limited democracy available to foundations in Liechtenstein (there is no majority voting). All assets, liabilities, and jurisdictional governance have, as of June 28th, 2019, with unanimous agreement from co-founders Patrick McConlogue and Arjun Raj Jain are wholly under the management of Borderless Services, BVI-REG. The digital asset Emblems created in the genesis event and distributed on February 14th, 2019 are assigned to and issued by Borderless Services Inc. This results in two important changes.

1. The holding company, indefinitely, cannot sell the granted Emblems (EMB) into the crypto markets.

2. Custodianship of the Emblems can be insured based on its market rate and not the initial contribution value.

Is this a centralized company? No. In fact it gives more power to Emblems on the open market, as they are not permanently frozen within shares.

While this jurisdictional change has no impact on the technology or mission of Block Collider, we must always act in good faith, common sense judgment, and reasonableness when handling important policy changes. Regarding Crypto Markets.

First and foremost, Block Collider is an exchange platform. We have connected with every prominent decentralized exchange in the space. Our goal is first to establish these relationships while simultaneously opening liquidity for EMB. This will likely be earlier than the formal launch of Borderless, but we will keep you posted. We cannot commit (nor have we) concerning listing Emblems on any exchange — cryptocurrency or otherwise, however with this new model we can create a special purpose organization within the holding company that does.

A New Digital Asset.

Emblems are a new unique asset. Each Emblem and its NRG reward represent both the demand for cryptocurrency mining utility and the volume of crypto pairs in the form of an exchange through NRG. An example in the public market would be an ETF which holds shares in gold mining companies and NASDAQ. This positions it as a unique stronghold, in that exchanges benefit from volatility regardless of whether the markets are up or down.

We will continue to adapt quickly to protect our long term belief in an individual’s right to trade. Zoom with market-maker prelisting, Slack (WORK) with a direct-to-market offering, and FB with Libra all demonstrate that markets are becoming more open to alternative models.

Closing with more wisdom from Warren Buffet, “The business schools reward difficult complex behavior more than simple behavior, but simple behavior is more effective.” Put simply, the foundation model prevented Block Collider from ever being able to take EMB to the global markets, now we can.
